Funding Frozen For Military Spouse Education Program
Under the Military Spouse Career Advancement Account program, the husbands or wives of military personnel are eligible to receive up to $6,000 to pursue further education.
Last week, the Defense Department abruptly stopped the program, telling students on the MyCAA website that the program was under review.
Army Secretary: No more cuts for Fort Drum
Army Secretary John McHugh says he's hopeful Fort Drum won't see any more cuts next year. McHugh, speaking with Bill Owens Thursday, said the Army should be more financially stable next year and he doesn't think cuts will be necessary.

10th Mountain Division Soldier.

Pfc. Thomas E. Hodge II, 28, of Waynesboro, Va will be honored at the
ceremony

Pfc. Hodge died Jan. 9 in Mt. Solon, Va. while on leave from duty in
Iraq.

Jefferson County plans "Safe Haven" awareness push
County DSS officials, the DA and the Youth Bureau have come up with nearly a dozen such places called "safe havens." They include county hospitals, the children's home, Watertown Fire and Police stations, Guilfoyle Ambulance and the Emergency Services building on Fort Drum. Press Release- Soldiers now getting critical air traffic control training on Fort Drum

Fort Drum, NY - Media is invited to cover the first wave of Soldiers
training at Fort Drum's Wheeler-Sac Army Airfield new Air Traffic Control
Simulator. The simulator re-creates a wide range of real-life situations for
air traffic controllers, providing critical training and experience for
combat operations.

Press Release- AH-64D Apache unit arrives to Fort Drum

FORT DRUM, NY--A ceremony to welcome the 1st Attack Reconnaissance
Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment to Fort Drum will be held 10 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 5, at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield here.

The "Tigershark" battalion, consisting of AH-64D Apache helicopters,
will uncase their unit colors signifying their relocation from Hunter
Army Airfield in Savannah, Ga. to Fort Drum. This is the first Apache
unit ever stationed at Fort Drum.

The battalion is commanded by Lt. Col. Michael J. Slocum. Command Sgt.
Maj. Rigoberto Hernandez is the battalion's command sergeant major.

The Tigersharks were previously designated as 3rd Battalion, 3rd
Aviation Regiment assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division. The unit
reflagged to become 1-10 ATK in August 2008 and assigned to the 10th
Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (LI). The battalion
recently deployed with the 10th CAB in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom in Northern Iraq.

The 10th CAB redeployed in October 2009 after a successful combat
rotation. Since October, 1-10 ATK has been busy moving equipment,
Soldiers and Families to Ft Drum as they get ready to deploy in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 10th CAB in October 2010.

Lt. Col. Slocum will be available for interviews immediately following
the ceremony.

Press Release- 10th Mountain Division Headquarters to Deploy in Fall 2010

FORT DRUM, NY - The 10th Mountain Division's headquarters has been
notified by the Department of Defense it will deploy to Afghanistan in
fall 2010 to support Operation Enduring Freedom.

"The 10th Mountain Division has continuously supported overseas
contingency operations since 2001 and we are well versed in command and
control operations in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Maj. Gen. James Terry,
10th Mountain Division commander.

The division headquarters previously deployed to Afghanistan in 2001,
2003 and again in 2006 where it comprised the core of Combined Joint
Task Force-76.

The division headquarters most recent deployment was to Iraq in 2008
where it served as the headquarters for Multi-National Division South,
returning home in May 2009.

Currently, 3,500 members of the division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team are
serving in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 1st Brigade
Combat Team deployed one battalion to Afghanistan in January and is
preparing the remainder of its units to deploy this spring as part of
the 30,000 troops authorized by President Barack Obama on Nov. 30, 2009.
