Counseling retreat for military families in works for spring

Local and Fort Drum officials plan a spring seminar to help families deal with substance abuse prevention in the home, how to communicate better with family, how to bond with each other in a healthy way and how to learn to use refusal skills in an appropriate and respectful way.

GOVERNOR PATERSON DIRECTS FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF
Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, January 6, in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Baghdad on January 1.

Spc. Brushaun X. Anderson

FORT DRUM, NY - A 2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldier died Friday, Jan. 1
from a non-combat related incident in Baghdad, Iraq.

The Fort Drum Soldier who died is Spc. Brushaun X. Anderson, 20, of
Columbus, Ga.

Spc. Anderson served as an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 14th
Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division
(Light Infantry). He deployed in October 2009 in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Anderson joined the Army in October 2007 and arrived to Fort Drum
in May 2008.

Spc. Anderson is survived by his mother and father.
