A New York Army National Guard Soldier serving on active duty, 1st Lieutenant Joseph J. Theinert, age 24, died June 4, 2010 in Afghanistan while assigned to Army's 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry, part 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).
The Kandahar-based commander of Regional Command South, British Maj. Gen. Nick Carter, is expected to be followed by the commanding general of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division once Gen. Carter's term runs out in the fall, coalition officials say.
Afghan National Police along with Soldiers from Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery from the 10th Mountain Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team joined forces June 1, to bring much needed medical aid and supplies to a local village that has been plagued by the insurgency in Ghalbala
