Here's the latest and greatest from Ft Drum and the 10th Mountain!

Officials at Fort Drum in northern New York are set to cut the ribbon on a new addition to the Army post.The 10th Mountain Division is opening the new Fort Drum Labyrinth. Army officials say the labyrinth will be a special place where soldiers and their families can go for mediation, prayer and healing.


Soldiers of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, from the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, have been hard at work on one of the most vital missions of Operation Enduring Freedom – assisting the Afghan National Army as it grows into a force able to secure the country’s borders.

Afghan National Security Forces are beginning to take over reins from the 10th Mountain Division’s 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment as their training moves into a new phase of instruction. Since being tasked as mentors for ANSF, Soldiers of “Triple Deuce” battalion have performed as hands-on instructors, with the ultimate goal of establishing a standard of education that allows the ANSF to take over the task of training.

A civilian worker was killed while performing his duties on Ft Drum in a fatal accident.

A former Fort Drum captain was sentenced May 21 to two years in federal prison for accepting cash in exchange for steering Army contracts to a particular company while stationed in Iraq, according to documents filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Manhattan.

Fort Drum soldiers will count on local officials to teach them how to run a town. The 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team will team up with the town to gain experience the unit can take with it to Afghanistan when it deploys in the spring.
