10th Mountain Division News Roundup

Platoon making best of outpost situation
A platoon of 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment soldiers from Fort Drum live austerely in the shadow of the Fish Mountains.

When they arrived at Combat Outpost Thiener earlier this year, they lived under the Dand District sun, out of a cluster of armored trucks, protected only by earthen berms. Today, conditions here are slightly improved, but the soldiers enjoy none of the amenities of personnel living on huge bases in the rear.
