Local Soldier Killed
A Panama City man, serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, has died.
The Department of Defense says 31-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Dennis J. Hansen, died Monday at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
Authorities say he was critically injured on December 3rd, during an insurgent attack on his unit in Logar province. Apparently Hansen was wounded by an improvised explosive device.
Hansen was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, of the 10th Mountain Division stationed in Fort Drum, New York.
He joined the military in October 1996.
His previous deployments included 16-months in Afghanistan from February 2006 to June 2007 and four months in Iraq from March to July 2004.
Hansen is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter.
